I always thought of communication media from the perspective of signal-to-noise ratio - depending on the message to be communicated certain media are better suited than others (e.g. video for immersion and empathy, written narratives for complex and nuanced arguments and powerpoint for slogans, pithy messages and single ideas at a time)
